Rose McGowan has shed more light on the Harvey Weinstein scandal, stating that the producer she has accused of rape offered her $1 million to sign a non-disclosure agreement on the eve of a devastating expose published this month by the New York Times.

According to The Times, "someone close to Mr. Weinstein" offered her money to keep quiet amid the explosive allegations that surfaced after The Times and The New Yorker published their exposé's detailing thirty years of misconduct facilitated by Harvey.

McGowan tells the Times she had many people encourage her to take the money because her personal funds had grown thin (she both had stopped acting and had to pay for her late father's health bills). "She was like, 'You're an actress, you've done a sex scene, you're done, '" she recalled.

'I figured I could probably have gotten him up to three. "But I was like - ew, gross, you're disgusting, I don't want your money, that would make me feel disgusting". He died eight years ago. She received the offer before the first story ran regarding Weinstein's past involving sexual harassment.

She later asked her lawyer to rescind the counter offer.

In response to the lengthy accusations made against Weinstein, a spokesperson for the movie mogul previously said, "Any allegations of non-consensual sex are unequivocally denied by Mr. Weinstein".
