Jacinda Ardern to become New Zealand's youngest prime minister in 150 years

Well, a brief interaction with New Zealand's Prime Minister-designate has left one Australian journalist flabbergasted.

A condition of the confidence and supply agreement between Ardern's Labour party and the Greens is a public referendum on personal marijuana use in the next three years, according to the New Zealand Herald.

By election day on September 23, expectations had shifted. The Green party will not formally join the coalition, but will decide whether to give their support on a case-by-case basis.

The announcement ended nearly a month of uncertainty, and weeks of negotiations, conducted by Peters with Ardern and the incumbent Prime Minister Bill English's National party over who could form the next government.

The Executive Director at New Zealand Drug Foundation, Ross Bell, said he regularly sees 65 percent in favor of changing the law in the polls his organization conducts, and believes a fresh look at drug policy is overdue.

"We had a choice to make for a modified status quo or for change... that's why in the end we chose a coalition government of New Zealand First with the New Zealand Labor Party", Peters said of the decision.

Yesterday, after weeks of post-election negotiations, New Zealanders finally got confirmation on who their next Prime Minister would be.

Monmouth University Poll: Virginia Gubernatorial Race Is Tied
While President Trump has thrown his support behind Gillespie , just over four in 10 commonwealth voters say Mr. Trump is either a major (29 percent) or minor factor (14 percent) in their gubernatorial vote choice.

"Lo and behold the Green Party come along, and allows the country to have the sort of conversation we should have had for a long time". "We've formed a coalition government based on the majority of votes", she said.

"All around the country people felt we could and should be doing far better", he said.

Praising Ardern's "extraordinary talent" in the campaign, Peters backed her pledge to build thousands of affordable homes per year.

Ardern expects to allocate ministerial portfolios and release detailed policies next week, as well as implement a 100-day plan of high-priority reforms.

The result caps a remarkable revival for Labour since she replaced Andrew Little as leader just 80 days before Thursday's announcement.

She spoke with Australia's Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull on election night about the strength of the trans-Tasman relationship. The surge to Labour was quickly coined "Jacindamania".

As most expected, New Zealand First's nine seats made them the kingmakers.
