Micromax Bharat-1 4G Feature Phone Launched in Partnership With BSNL Offering'Unlimited Calls Data Usage

On Tuesday, Micromax in partnership with state-run telecom operator BSNL has launched a 4G VoLTE-enabled phone "Bharat 1" at Rs. 2,200 in India. "This will connect the unconnected masses in rural area at very affordable rate", BSNL Chairman and Managing Director Anupam Shrivastava said, while announcing the agreement with Micromax.

Taking cues from the JioPhone, Bharat 1 is a 4G VoLTE ready feature phone.

BSNL will offer unlimited internet access, calling and SMS, along with free roaming, for a monthly recharge of Rs 97. The phone is a direct competition to the Reliance JioPhone with such kind of specs and price.

Homegrown manufacturer Micromax today announced the launch of Bharat 1 in partnership with BSNL.

The Micromax Bharat 1 is powered by an entry-level Qualcomm Snapdragon processor that supports 4G VoLTE network. The phone sports a 2.4-inch QVGA display, 2-megapixel rear camera and a VGA selfie-shooter at the front. Since the Bharat 1 is targeted at the feature phone market, BSNL is going aggressive with the data plan.

Jimmie Smith had bought the tickets almost a year ago, and claimed his prize with just two days to go before its expiry date. Smith plans to have an "all-family" meeting to discuss how the money will be split up, according to the gaming commission.

The Bharat 1 supports 22 Indian languages, a preloaded Micromax Entertainment app for Live TV, music, movies and videos streaming.

Micromax Bharat 1 comes in a similar form factor as that of the JioPhone. The Micromax Bharat 1 has been launched at Rs 2,200 and will be available in retailer stores from October 20.

The "effective cost" of using the Micromax Bharat-1 will be Rs. 3,364, compared to Rs. 3,336 that a user of Jio Phone would spend on the device, Sharma said. Three years down the line, the Bharat-1 will cost customers Rs. 5,692, while the Jio Phone cost them Rs. 6,008 during the same period.

"With the Rs 97 plan offered by BSNL with the Bharat 1, I believe the network provider will be able to make its mark with this offering in the competitive telecom industry", said Telecom Minister Manoj Sinha at the event. Connecting the last mile- to the Internet and relevant information - is an important part of the strategy for both BSNL and Micromax. The Bharat 1 comes with a 2000mAh battery. Users will not be restricted to BSNL's network in the Bharat 1 mobile.
