Ezekiel Elliott May Still Be Eligible To Play

Jerry Jones ready to exhaust all options to get his running back on the field

Jerry Jones ready to exhaust all options to get his running back on the field

The NFLPA will ask for a full panel rehearing of Ezekiel Elliott's case with the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals.

Per the report, U.S. District Judge Amos Mazzant III will not lift the injunction until the U.S. 5th Circuit Court of Appeals makes a ruling on the injunction.

So right now, as the Dallas Cowboys are on a bye week, Elliott's suspension is still not yet in effect, but it's possible that a decision could be made as soon as Monday, and it's likely that this decision will be a denial on the en banc hearing as petitioned cases were rarely heard in the Fifth Circuit previous year with only six out of 200 cases making it so far. If granted, Elliott would be allowed to remain on the field. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the 2nd District famously rejected Tom Brady's petition for an en banc hearing pertaining to his Deflategate suspension previous year. In the Brady case, for example, the en banc petition was filed in April and the court made its decision in July.

Hamas, Fatah sign reconciliation deal in Cairo
One of the key sticking points will be the fate of Hamas's 25,000-strong military wing, the Ezzedine al-Qassam Brigades. Yahya Sinwar, Hamas's acting chief in Gaza, for his part, congratulated Abbas on the watershed agreement.

The Dallas Cowboys will lose star running back Ezekiel Elliott for a good chunk of the season after all.

By rule, Elliott and the NFLPA have 14 days to file a petition for a rehearing. During that time, he'll be sidelined for six games, including against the San Francisco 49ers, Washington Redskins, Kansas City Chiefs, Atlanta Falcons, Philadelphia Eagles and the Chargers. The original punishment was issued by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell after a 13-month league investigation.

Should Elliott have to serve his six-game suspension, Alfred Morris would be the most likely option to shoulder the load in his absence. Now, the National Football League has released a statement making it clear that Elliott IS still suspended, contrary to the news that broke last night.
