Russian Agents Bought Google Ads During US Election

Russian-bought ads on Google platforms aimed to sway 2016 US election: report

The ads appear not to be from the same Russian trolls from the Internet Research Agency that advertised on Facebook.

Google has discovered evidence that Russian operatives purchased ads on its services to meddle with the 2016 U.S. presidential election, according to a new report. "We are sure that as Google looks deeper it will find that the Russians did worse than they are reporting and when you add that to what we know happened at Facebook and Twitter, you begin to understand the scope of their influence on the 2016 presidential elections", a national security expert told The Liberal Advocate News Monday.

The ads bought on Google were not from the same organization that purchased the 3,000 ads on Facebook, according to the report. According to the estimates, $ 100,000 invested would have enabled Russian Federation to buy ads Facebook views by 23 million Americans, primarily in States crucial such as MI and Wisconsin, won with 10,000 and 20,000 votes ahead by Donald Trump.

Facebook recently revealed that for just $100,000, apparent Russia-linked buyers placed about 3,000 advertisements on its pages a year ago that appeared aimed at influencing the election in which Trump defeated his Democratic rival Hillary Clinton.

The company announced Thursday that company executives are talking with congressional committees with respect to investigations into Russian interference in the 2016 USA election.

Facebook said last month that the ads appeared to have come from accounts associated with a Russian entity called the Internet Research Agency. That means ads on services like Gmail, Google Search, and YouTube may have been paid for by Kremlin-connected accounts, much like at Facebook and Twitter. In September, a spokesperson for Google said the company always monitors for any violations of abuse of its policies and has seen nothing to indicate there was an ad campaign run across its platforms.

The Walking Dead WILL Crossover With Fear The Walking Dead
Kirkman didn't say if it would occur in the upcoming eighth season of The Walking Dead , which premieres on October 22 at 9 p.m. And inspiration struck for him Saturday night at Madison Square Garden during the New York Comic Con Walking Dead panel.

"This was a broad search, including, for instance, ads bought from accounts with US IP addresses but with the language set to Russian - even though they didn't necessarily violate any policy or law".

The company had previously said it had found no evidence of this kind of activity.

But Google's investigation hasn't found the same type of targeted advertising that Russian agents conducted on Facebook.

This is the first time Google has been reported to admit to evidence of this activity.

Meanwhile many Americans, and politicians on Capitol Hill, would like the Russian-backed Facebook ads to be released to the public.

Google officials are expected to testify in front of Congress on November 1 on the issue, along with representatives from Facebook and Twitter.
