Louis and Sandy Polemeni arrived in North Texas from Puerto Rico three days ago.

Cruz has long won attention across the island for her hands-on style of leadership in San Juan. Maria, the most powerful storm to strike Puerto Rico in almost 90 years, has destroyed roads, making it hard to get food, water, and fuel around the island.

NY emergency workers have spent the past week in Puerto Rico rebuilding infrastructure, delivering resources to families and aiding volunteers after Hurricane Maria ravaged the island and left most of its 3.4 million residents without basic necessities. But he warned that the U.S. Congress would need to help rebuild the island, which is home to 3.4 million Americans.

Cruz, who has been living in a shelter since her house was destroyed by Maria, pressed on with her appeal for basic necessities as insurers and politicians began to tally the costs of the storm and the size of the aid package Puerto Rico will need.

The funniest thing about POTUS being at his resort in Bedminster today, feuding with the mayor of a devastated San Juan on Twitter, is that it was literally just yesterday that he was complaining about Tom Price in terms of ...

Donald Trump defends Puerto Rico effort, but his tweets draw new criticism
Baldwin's Trump, mouth agape, hesitated before stammering, "I mean, I do, but not many know that, no". Villaseñor promptly informs him that Puerto Rico is a US territory.

Cruz, who has appeared regularly on USA cable news programs, was particularly pointed in rejecting a statement by acting Homeland Security secretary, Elaine Duke, who called the government's response "a good news story in terms of our ability to reach people and the limited number of deaths that have taken place".

Appearing on television in a black shirt with white letters that read, "HELP US, WE ARE DYING", Cruz argued that federal aid had been slow to reach Puerto Rico following Maria, which knocked out power to the entire island.

Cruz went on to compliment workers from the Federal Emergency Management Agency and homeland security adviser Tom Bossert for their work in recent days to restore power to parts of the island. The optics of Trump himself grumbling about Puerto Rican leaders wanting "everything to be done for them" in the middle of a humanitarian crisis, while at a golf course, are way worse. "You have been GOLFING", he tweeted at Trump. "I can tell you this: We have done an incredible job considering there's absolutely nothing to work with". They.want everything to be done for them when it should be a community effort.

"The governor is giving a message that everything is resolved, and it is not true", Mayor Isidro Negron Irizarry said in Spanish on Twitter. Below is a video in which she begs the President for his help.

"I haven't heard what she said", he told reporters.

The Trump administration has given Puerto Rico's government "whatever we ask for" in the immediate aftermath of the hurricane, Rossello said. "There are 78 mayors who are performing miracles with the resources they have".
