Monty Hall, the host of the classic TV game show "Let's Make a Deal", died Saturday, Sept. 30, 2017 of heart failure at his home in Beverly Hills, according to The New York Times.

Born Monte Halperin on 25 August 1921, for almost three decades Hall hosted "Let's Make a Deal", the hugely successful television show that he co-created.

Monty Hall was born in Winnipeg, Canada on August 25th, 1921 as Maurice Halperin.

The game show's contestants were chosen amongst the studio audience - wearing fancy dresses of clowns, cartoons and animals in order to draw host's attention towards them. Contestants - wearing insane costumes to attract Hall's attention and get plucked from the crowd - got to choose mystery prizes behind three bedazzled doors.

McNeil wrote: "Monty kept the show moving while he treated the outrageously garbed and occasionally greedy contestants courteously; it is hard to imagine anyone else but Hall working the trading area as smoothly".

Another daughter, Joanna Gleason, is a longtime Broadway and television actress.

Besides Hall, the hosts of "Let's Make a Deal" were Bob Hilton (1990) and Billy Bush (2003). But bitten by the stage bug thanks to appearances in student shows, he left for NY. In recent years, "Let's Make a Deal" has undergone a revival featuring Wayne Brady as host. He re-invented the catch phrase when announcing who would compete next on Let's Make A Deal. He was a member of the American TV Game Show Hall of Fame.

The long-time host was also well-known for his charity work, including work with Variety Clubs International and the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

In 1947, Hall married his wife, Marilyn, who became an Emmy Award-winning producer.
