NYPD Chief Robert Boyce says an 18-year-old male student stabbed two male students in the chest with a switch blade inside a fifth-floor classroom after an argument. The names of the students were not released. A pair of scissors was recovered, WABC said.

"All our hearts are very heavy right now", said Mayor Bill de Blasio at an afternoon news conference. It started with "back and forth" between the three students and quickly escalated, according to Boyce. A counselor in the hallway confronted him and took the knife; he was walked to the assistant principal's office, where he sat until police arrived. However, it wasn't immediately clear what sparked the violence.

"There's a lot of answers we are looking for, how this unfolded and why".

The motive for the attack is unconfirmed, but investigators believe the attacker may have been the target of ongoing bullying, according to the New York Post.

The campus is home to about 1,100 students between the high school, middle school and elementary school, officials said.

"Two of my students got stabbed and one of them died". On Thursday, metal detectors and additional school security officers will be made available for random screenings at the school. It houses P.S. 67 as well as in the Urban Assembly School for Wildlife Conservation, which serves 6th through 12th graders.
