Zinedine Zidane's side nearly made the game safe when Cristiano Ronaldo's drive cannoned back off the post, though up the other end, Alaves were also denied by the woodwork, Alfonso hitting the frame of the goal from distance.

Ceballos was one of three changes made to the side that lost to Betis by Zidane as Luka Modric and Gareth Bale were left on the bench ahead of Tuesday's Champions League trip to Borussia Dortmund.

Alaves managed to level matters with their first real chance on 40 minutes courtesy of thumping header from Garcia.

The victory takes Madrid back to the top four with 11 points from six games.

Father and son will be reunited, albeit on opposite sides of the ball, when Madrid visits the Basque Country club.

China rejects threats as solution for North Korea nuclear crisis
Pyongyang has warned the United States and South Korea that ground and bombing drills by the two allies could spark a nuclear war. In the new executive order, Trump called the practice of providing resources to North Korea "disgraceful".

Real Madrid regained the lead less than three minutes later, however, when Ceballos found the back of the net with a cool finish after Alaves goalkeeper Pacheco had failed to hold onto a Dani Carvajal cross inside his own box.

The score remained 2-1 to Real at the break.

And the Spanish under-21 global settled Madrid's nerves after just 10 minutes as he caught Fernando Pacheco flat-footed by pulling the ball inside the goalkeeper's near post from the edge of the area.

Pacheco gave his team a chance at a late draw with a fine save on Ronaldo, but Alaves couldn't muster any real chances, as Real preserved a narrow win.

Both sides also went close in the final 20 minutes. Real were playing with fire and didn't do themselves any favours by missing several great chances, with Ramos in particular struggling in front of goal. Alaves, meanwhile, are next in La Liga action away to Levante next weekend.
