The Volkswagen Group has announced plans to offer its entire 300 model range with an electric element to its drivetrain by 2030 as its set out its "Roadmap E" plan at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

"Our task is to make modern technology available to many people".

The ID Crozz ll is slated to go into production in 2020 - the same time as VW will introduce a five-door electric hatch which it unveiled at last year's Paris auto salon.

Other new features over the original concept include an interactive voice control that can be used to open or close all doors, and to activate or deactivate the fully automated "I.D".

Advanced Driver Assistance SimulatorTake a virtual ride through time and see the impact of various ADAS technologies and how they may change with the future of mobility.

Also set to appeal to buyers will be the range of assistance systems available on the auto, including Front Assist and Lane Assist as standard and an optional Traffic Jam Assist system. The company is also looking into longer life vehicle batteries that could in the future offer a driving range of over 370 miles in one charge. We have to wait until 2022 for the I.D. Buzz (middle).

Apple announces Apple TV 4K, available September 22 for $179
Why anyone would invest in more Apple TV storage, I don't know, and Apple has never properly explained why that's even an option. Preorders for the Apple TV 4K will begin on September 15, and the box is set to go on sale on September 22 at two price points.

The updated concept better reveals what a future production version will look like.

Moving to its side, one will notice that the I.D. Crozz II does not have a B-pillar. It will have a range of 500 kilometers using the wildly optimistic NEDC.

An 80% charge is reportedly possible using a 150 kW charger - of which precious few exist at the moment.

Suspension is taken care of by a new multi-link set-up with MacPherson struts and electronically controlled dampers. It is supposed to mark the new styling direction for future Skoda models, and if we were on Volkswagen's payroll working in the design department, we'd be anxious. Americans are gaga for crossovers. But that scandal certainly accelerated plans for a group-wide Modular Electric Toolkit-known as the MEB platform.

Growing restrictions and charges for diesel and gasoline vehicles are spurring the rise of electric cars, although analysts say big investments in charging points and power networks will be needed to serve a mass market. Instead, it seems content to be a "me, too" company with a surprising lack of urgency behind its electric vehicle ambitions.
