He's a big movie star. The Disaster Artist is based on The Room costar Greg Sesteros' 2013 book of the same name. Peter Debruge of Variety says, "Although Franco evidently wasn't interested almost enough in Wiseau's motivations, "The Disaster Artist" does succeed in capturing the sheer ineptitude of his endeavor, including details that many don't know - and might never guess - such as Wiseau's decision to shoot "The Room" in both digital and 35mm formats, or his insistence on having his own personal bathroom on set". We're hoping the movie is as great as the cast. The adaptation is expected to be loyal to its source material, showing the troubled filming of The Room, the difficulties Sestero and Wiseau experienced when they struggled to break into Hollywood, and the odd friendship that the two share up until today. They understand kinship, having a shorthand, and lifting the other person up when they're feeling down.

Expect this to be a serious awards season contender. However, what started as a hard production got progressively worse, as Wiseau's unusual filming methods got increasingly extreme, his money ran out, and not least that Tommy's acting style was unique to say the least.

By keeping the focus on the emotions of its lead characters, The Disaster Artist finds a surprising honesty that goes far beyond simple appreciation for The Room. But instead of coasting on camaraderie with The Room fans, The Disaster Artist feels like a richer, more thoughtful experience about how even bad art has its place if you can come to its honestly.

Hurricane Irma has "absolutely historic destructive potential"

Tommy Wiseau and James Franco at the premiere of The Disaster Artist. There are also a couple of callbacks to The Room in the trailer as well, including some awkward football throwing and Wiseau's insistence that he has to show his ass to sell the movie.

"The Disaster Artist" hits theaters on December 1.
