La Liga president challenges UEFA to investigate Man City transfers

Neymar, PSG and Manchester City accused of 'peeing in the swimming pool' by La Liga president Javier Tebas

Neymar, PSG and Manchester City accused of 'peeing in the swimming pool' by La Liga president Javier Tebas

La Liga president Javier Tebas says he is anxious about Paris Saint-Germain being able to buy Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi after their controversial transfer of Neymar this summer.

The Ligue 1 club were taken over by Oryx Qatar Sports Investments back in 2011 and have since signed a number of the best players in the world for sizeable fees, including Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Thiago Silva and Edinson Cavani. "The investigation comes after La Liga formally requested such probes into PSG and Manchester City FC in August".

He also said Girona, the club in which City's owners bought a 44.3% stake last month, had tried to "cook the books" after taking players on loan from City.

The City Football Group responded to Tebas's claims as they said: "Mr Tebas' statements are ill-informed and in parts pure fiction".

The head of Spanish football's top flight, continued: "It is not just about PSG but also Manchester City".

"We note the public comments made by Mr Tebas today and earlier this week", City Football Group said in a widely-reported statement on Wednesday. City loaned five players to Girona: Douglas Luiz, Marlos Moreno, Aleix García, Pablo Maffeo, and Olarenwaju Kayode.

On Wednesday, at the Soccerex Global Convention in Manchester, Tebas accused the two clubs of "making a mockery" of the Financial Fair Play rules through their excessive spending on players in the transfer market.

He also said that he spoke to Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and has been assured that the guilty will not be spared. The press freedom group says 25 journalists have died in India since 2010.

"Manchester City with all this oil [money] will take all these players and we need to protect ourselves".

"Half of the squad left for worldwide duty and they called up reserve players to fill up the group, which is amusing", Bertrand said.

UEFA has opened an investigation over PSG's signings, and the possibility of breaking Financial Fair Play rules, although nothing has been set for Manchester City.

"These unworthy remarks are unbefitting an institution as respectable and successful as the Spanish league".

He said: "Some of the loan prices were too low. That is impossible. That is financial doping".

Tebas added: "PSG and Man City's funding by state-aid distorts European competitions and creates an inflationary spiral that is irreparably harming the football industry".
