However, a challenge awaits Goyal as he is taking over the Railways Ministry at a time it is facing big challenges on safety as well as its business.

"It's a very emotional day for me".

"He has been mentoring me for over 20 years". He was the one who undertook power reforms during NDA-1.

Bharatiya Janata Party leaders Piyush Goyal and Nitin Gadkari, who have won praise for their performance in the roads and power sectors, were on Sunday tasked with more responsibilities in reinforcing infrastructure. "My focus will be to implement that vision".

Tremor detected in N.Korea after sixth nuclear test
North Korea has stated it is, at least in part, responding to Washington's decision to hold the exercises, which ended last week. Outside experts suggested the yield of the device tested Sunday might be in that ballpark, though closer to the lower range.

Goyal is expected to continue the reforms initiated by Prabhu in railways and bring new ideas to the table, said Jaijit Bhattacharya, partner and head, economics, regulatory and policy advisory, KPMG in India.

Suresh Prabhu, who lost his Railway portfolio, has been shifted within the Cabinet to the Commerce and Industry Ministry, earlier held by Sitharaman. The officials say that Goyal can help frame a policy at a central level and also inspect local station and improve facilities for commuters travelling in local trains.

The three new Ministers of State with independent charge are R.K. Singh (Power, New and Renewable Energy), Hardeep Puri (Housing and Urban Affairs) and K.J. Alphons (Tourism, Electronics and IT). He will also have to fast track the station redevelopment project and work towards making the railway tracks safer.

Ashwani Lohani, Chairman, Railway Board, and other Board Members were also present.
