"I have a great heart for the folks we're talking about - a great love for them".

Although Trump's announcement had been anticipated in recent days, it still left young people covered by the DACA program reeling. "I'm still trying to get myself together". The program was initially intended as a stop-gap measure to protect aspiring young immigrants, while Congress was to come up with a more lasting solution to their problems.

"To have a lawful system of immigration that serves the national interest, we can not admit everyone who would like to come here", Attorney General Jeff Sessions said. Congress tried that and failed in 2013, and GOP leaders immediately ruled it out Tuesday. Over 90 percent of DACA recipients are now employed, including tens of thousands in NY, and a rescission of DACA will only cause pain to our nation and our state's pocketbooks.

But the fate of DACA is still going to come down to whether Congress acts to preserve the program's protections.

"The DACA program was implemented in 2012, and essentially provided a legal status for recipients or a renewable two-year term work authorization and other benefits", Sessions said.

Sessions announced in advance he would not take questions, one more sign of the intellectual cowardice and lack of accountability that are the hallmarks of the anti-immigrant advocates pushing for DACA repeal. For those students protected under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, it also ushered in an uncertain future about their status in the United States.

Under the envisioned Trump policy shift, Dreamers with valid work permits would be able to stay in the U.S. until their permits - which are issued for two-year periods - expired, the sources said.

Lawmakers were trickling back to the Capitol Tuesday from a summer recess and already are confronting a daunting to-do list including a relief package for Hurricane Harvey victims and a pressing need to raise the federal borrowing limit.

Sessions watched in silence as Trump pardoned former Maricopa County, Ariz., Sheriff Joe Arpaio, who was convicted of criminal contempt of court for violating the constitutional rights of Hispanics targeted in his crackdowns on illegal immigrants. "We welcome DREAMers with open arms as well as an open heart".

Cardinals could face Jacoby Brissett at QB in Week 2
The New England Patriots have traded third string quarterback Jacoby Brissett to the Indianapolis Colts for Phillip Dorsett . Garoppolo was targeted by numerous teams this offseason, but New England proved unwilling to part with him via trade.

If their permits expire before March, 5, 2018, they are eligible to renew them for another two years as long as they apply by October 5. Trump will allow pending applications filed before today to be processed.

That means the earliest that dreamers would begin to lose protections under the program would be next March.

It's no surprise to anyone who has followed Sessions' career that he would take an opportunity to criticize DACA or announce its end.

In a written statement, Trump said he is looking forward to working with Congress to finally address all of these issues "in a manner that puts the hardworking citizens of our country first". Now that the president has acted, it is time for those well-meaning statements from congressmen and senators to become well-doing legislation.

"This executive order was effectively a White House directive to ignore immigration law in the cases of families with children", Cucchiara (junior-chemical engineering) said. One bill introduced this year would provide a path to legal permanent residency.

Advocacy groups decried the decision as cruel, capricious and illogical, saying it targets the very immigrants who are most likely to make significant contributions to the U.S.

"From a Republican Party point of view, this is a defining moment", he said.

"Congress writes laws, not the president, and ending this program fulfills a promise that President Trump made to restore the proper role of the executive and legislative branches".
