Meanwhile, Kenyan opposition leader Raila Odinga is calling for the election commission to be disbanded after the Supreme Court nullified last month's presidential election as unconstitutional.

The president of Kenya, Uhuru Kenyatta, has said his country has "a problem" with its judiciary after the Supreme Court cancelled his victory in last month's presidential election.

"It's a very historic day for the people of Kenya and by extension the people of Africa", Odinga said.

This is coming on the back of the Supreme Court Friday, September 1 ruling which annulled President Uhuru Kenyatta's win.

"The election was not conducted within the dictates of the constitution", Kenya Supreme Court Chief Justice David Maraga said, announcing the court's decision.

Kenya's Supreme Court has overturned President Uhuru Kenyatta's re-election win and has called for a new election within 60 days. This time, protests and sporadic violence killed at least 28 after Kenyatta was annoucned as the victor. He also disputed the 2007 election result, leading to ethnic battles across the country that left about 1,500 people dead and have haunted the country since.

Marietje Schaake, a Dutch Member of the EU Parliament who headed the EU Election Observation Mission, noted there were some problems with insufficient records for voters whose identification could not be verified, but said there were "no signs of centralized or localized manipulation".

Truex Jr. Qualifies 2nd, Jones 10th for Southern 500
It looked as if Hamlin might finish high but outside of Victory Lane once Logano broke free on a restart six laps from the end. But Truex, the defending victor of the event, was disappointed he couldn't hold on to the top spot for two more laps.

But later on Friday, he told a rally of supporters the judges were "crooks" and said Mr Maraga "should know that he is now dealing with the serving president". They said they saw no interference in the vote.

Global observers, more than 400 of whom were on the ground for the August 8 election, had signed off on the result, despite the murder of a top election official just days before the vote and a breakdown in the tallying system that saw some of the results reported via text message. The court voted 4-2 to nullify Kenyatta's election saying they found the electoral commission had performed irregularities and illegalities in adding up the presidential vote.

He was however adamant that the current electoral commission should not be allowed to hold any other election in Kenya.

"It is a historic decision, the first of its kind in Africa", Murithi Mutiga, a Nairobi-based senior analyst at the International Crisis Group, said. "A lot of them actually belong to jail", Mr. Odinga said, insisting that the commissioners must be prosecuted.

Ms Schaake said the monitors were awaiting the full details of the ruling.

In a statement he read out on behalf of the Judicial Service Commission less than a week before the election, he listed instances in which politicians - from the ruling party and the opposition - had tried to intervene with the judiciary's work.

Kenyatta, however, has said the electoral commission should not be interfered with and warned the court against taking action on the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission.
