The Standard Missile-6, built by major United States defense contractor Raytheon, intercepted the missile target at sea in its final seconds of flight after being fired from the USS John Paul Jones.

The US Navy and Missile Defense Agency (MDA) have successfully shot down a ballistic missile target during a test off the Hawaiian coast, the US government said.

The missile was launched from the Pacific Missile Range Facility on Kauai, Hawaii. A sailor on the USS John Paul Jones triggered a self-destruct sequence by mistake.

"Earlier this year, our customer requested an enhanced capability to deal with a sophisticated medium-range ballistic missile threat", he said in a statement "We did all this - the analysis, coding and testing - in seven months; a process that normally takes one to two years".

In June, the John Paul Jones failed to shoot down its target missile in a similar test off Hawaii.

By firing a long-range missile over Japan that landed in the northern Pacific Ocean, North Korea is showing a total disregard for its worldwide obligations, she said in a statement Tuesday.

Dhoni had signaled his arrival in April, 2005, with a whirlwind 148 against Pakistan batting at No. 3 in Visakhapatnam. However, they were slow to get off the blokes and lost their opening encounters to the West Indies and Sri Lanka .

But yesterday's SM-6 test apparently wasn't a direct response to North Korea's most recent launch; the Hawaii operation had been planned for some time, according to The New York Times. An earlier test of the same interceptor in February succeeded.

The ground-based interceptor system was designed mainly to counter a North Korean missile threat, a US official said at the time.

The U.S. frequently tests elements of its missile defense systems.

The test, called Flight Test Standard Missile- 27 Event 2 (FTM-27 E2), demonstrated the integrated capabilities of the Aegis Weapon System and how it has continually evolved to counter advanced threats.

A medium-range ballistic missile target is launched from the Pacific Missile Range Facility on Kauai, Hawaii, during a defense test on August 29, 2017.
