YouTube Officially Announces Its New Look And Several Updated Features For Its Mobile App

The new YouTube user interface is based on Google's Polymer framework to provide a faster and more reliable experience. Additionally, "in the coming months" you'll be able to jump between videos with a swipe - left for previous, right for next. This means you'll no longer get black bars at the side of vertical videos. We already see billions of double taps per day.

Another feature YouTube brought is to speed up or speed down the playback speed for its mobile audience via gesture controls. On Tuesday YouTube announced its biggest aesthetic redo-and one that will give it a refreshing new look.

If you use YouTube via the mobile app, you'll find that it has an improved design with a white header instead of red, as well as navigation tabs on the bottom for easier access to thumbs (a necessity given how large phone screens are getting).

"Designed for our multi-screen world, the updated logo combines a cleaned up version of the YouTube wordmark and icon, creating a more flexible design that works better across a variety of devices, even on the tiniest screens", Mohan explained.
