German Nurse Suspected of Murdering Over 80 Patients - Reports

Authorities are waiting for the results of another 41 toxicology reports, the results of which could drive the number of confirmed deaths even higher, he said.

In past hearings, Niels H. conceded intentionally infusing patients at two facilities in northern Germany with savage medications and after that endeavoring to restore them so as to play the legend, German telecaster NDR said. "As if that were not enough, we have to accept realize that the real scale of the killings is probably many times worse".

Niels Hoegel, face covered, was convicted in 2015 of two murders and two attempted murders at a clinic in the northwestern town of Delmenhorst.

A chief police investigator in the case, Arne Schmidt said that this is the unique death toll in the history of German Republic.

Hoegel's activity came to light in 2005 when a colleague witnessed him injecting a patient.

Officials say that numerous deaths could have been prevented.

Hundreds of bodies have had to be exhumed and re-examined as part of the investigation.

In 2015, Hogel was sentenced to life for his earlier crime.

Prosecutors said a three-year investigation into other patients under Hoegel's care determined he was responsible for at least 84 more deaths. He worked at a clinic in Delmenhorst, an urban district in Lower Saxony, at the time, ITV reported.

The special commission, launched in October 2014, combed through evidence that included more than 500 patient files. He previously worked at Oldenburg hospital from 1999 to 2002, and confessed to investigators that he also killed patients at that location. He said he felt euphoric when he managed to save a patient and felt devastated when he failed to do so.

Prosecutors are expected to try Hoegel on at least some of the additional killings but Germany's judicial system does not allow for consecutive sentences, so future convictions won't affect his life term.
