Meads is survived by wife Verna and five children.

New Zealand First leader Winston Peters also sung praise of "Pinetree" Meads.

World Rugby CEO Brett Gosper, cricket star Brendon McCullum and WBO heavyweight champion Joseph Parker also paid their respects.

Meads, nicknamed as "Pinetree" at an early age, He was widely considered to embody the best qualities of an All Blacks player and was renowned for his toughness and uncompromising attitude in an worldwide playing career that spanned 14 years.
