Cricket Australia relationship unbroken after pay dispute, says Australian skipper Steve Smith

Australia's only practice match ahead of the two-match Test series against Bangladesh has been cancelled after heavy rain left the Fatullah cricket stadium pitch waterlogged. They did well against England.

Australian skipper Steven Smith expects the upcoming 2-match Test series against Bangladesh to be a closely-fought one but is hopeful of a favourable outcome in what will be their first series since the pay dispute with Cricket Australia got resolved.

For the while, the BCB was trying to get a specialised spin bowling consultant for the Australia series and even looked to rope in former Aussie cricketer Stuart MacGill.

"Our generation, we had a once-in-a-generation star in Shane Warne, who was a pretty good bowler, and (Glenn) McGrath wasn't too bad, and all those sort of guys". We are going to see it as a bit of a challenge.

Prior to leaving for Dhaka, the Australian players took part in an intra-squad match in Darwin, in Australia's tropical northern region, to condition themselves before landing in Bangladesh, where they expect hot and humid weather.

"The ground wasn't deemed up to the mark", Bangladesh Cricket Board media and communications committee chairman Jalal Yunus said.

It is also OU's highest preseason ranking under a first-year coach since beginning at No. 2 under Gomer Jones in the 1964 season. And that includes on Twitter, where fans and experts alike shared their opinions on where the teams placed, or didn't place.

"He (Smith) is very proactive in the way we want to play".

Cricket Australia agreed to reschedule the series this year only after Bangladesh promised stepped-up security.

Australia have not toured Bangladesh since 2006 and this series has been long in the making. Cricket Australia had also refused to send their U-19 team for the World Cup in Dhaka a year ago.

Australia is fourth in ICC test rankings and second behind South Africa in the ODI format.

While the Ponting-led side had only seven months earlier been dethroned in England, losing their first Ashes series in almost two decades, the touring party still boasted a formidable collection of talent including the likes of Matthew Hayden, Shane Warne, Adam Gilchrist, Brett Lee, Jason Gillespie, Stuart MacGill and a young Clarke.

Australia's tour of Bangladesh is finally set to get underway having faced several roadblocks in the past.
