The choice ends the battle for playing time between Siemian and second-year veteran Paxton Lynch, who alternated first-team repetitions from the start of organized team activities through last week's practices against the 49ers in Santa Clara, California.

Siemian won the starting job over Lynch last preseason as well, but the team re-opened the competition this offseason on hopes that Lynch could develop. In two preseason games, the third-year quarterback is completing 78 percent of his passes with a touchdown and zero picks.

Lynch posted a 74.2 passer rating while Siemian registered a 118.5 rating.

Siemian said he has shown enough to be named the starter.

"Well, I saw Paxton make some plays with his legs, which he should".

"I think so", Siemian told reporters after the game.

Police Officers Shot Dead in Florida
In a separate incident in Jacksonville, Florida, two officers were reported shot by the department's Twitter account . One trooper was life-flighted to Morgantown Hospital and the second was taken by ambulance to Uniontown Hospital.

"Trevor, he was solid".

"He's a guy with rare talent, and with time, he can be a good quarterback", Joseph said. "I'm not the coach but I think so".

Denver still isn't likely much closer to making a decision on whom the starter will be despite vice president of football operations John Elway's plea earlier this week that one of the two take control of the job. His ball placement was on point tonight.

"If you name a starter, he's the guy going forward", Joseph said on August 15.

The person requested anonymity to speak candidly prior to coach Vance Joseph's news conference at 3:15 p.m. EDT Monday in which he's expected to make if official.
