Delays on trains in and out of Waterloo

Many remaining services have been cancelled or curtailed after a train derailed at Vauxhall in south London at 5.40am

South West Trains (SWT) has urged passengers to avoid travelling to Waterloo tonight after one of its services crashed into a wagon yesterday.

One passenger on the service said "we just all went flying" after the service from Royston pulled into the north London station at about 6.20am.

"There's going to be major delays when I come home too".

Trains are unable to access 13 of the station's 24 platforms as 10 were already closed owing to engineering works to enlarge its capacity.

A spokesperson for Network Rail has described the incident as "very minor", whilst a spokesperson for Great Northern has confirmed that the Rail Accident Investigation Branch has been informed.

However, further platform closures means that many services will need to terminate before London Waterloo and many services will start away from London Waterloo.

Varnell allegedly claimed to embrace the " Three Percenter " ideology, referring to a far-right anti-government group. Law enforcement officials arrested the 23-year-old shortly after 1 a.m.

Sarah Marshall, who was in the station at the time, reported hearing a "high-pitched bang" but said most commuters were calm as they made their way to street level. "Only single track in/out on this side, apparently".

National Rail's website lists most trains into and out of Waterloo as either cancelled or delayed, with some late by more than an hour and a half.

A spokesman for London Ambulance service said nobody was injured in the derailment.

Said Network Rail in a statement: "A very limited service is running to and from London Waterloo, which is expected for the rest of today [Tuesday]".

When this happens, trains have to wait for platforms to become free, occupying the track outside Waterloo and making it more hard to get trains moving.

Photographs show the eight-car passenger train partially derailed up against the engineering wagon.
