Mo Farah won gold for Great Britain in the 10,000m at the London Stadium last Friday and remains the country's No 1 athlete

Four-time Olympic champion Mo Farah is looking to claim gold in Saturday night's men's 5,000m final at the World Athletics Championships ahead of his retirement later this month.

In a tactical race, Farah could not respond to a challenge for the first time in six years, turning his farewell race on the track at a major championship into a disappointment.

But when he starts his career as a marathon runner, Farah will be able to reflect on having created an awesome legacy with his four Olympic and six World Championship gold medals.

At 10,000 metres, in which Farah has also won a record five global golds, he is also still only the 16th-fastest (26:46.57), almost half a minute down on Bekele's world record of 26:17.53.

"Mo has many victories but now I have one", said the 23-year-old.

"I gave it my all, 110 percent", said Farah.

After suffering the agony of defeat in his final race the last place you may have expected Farah to be was on the London Eye

"Tactically, I was trying to cover every move but they had a game-plan. It's not an excuse, but it took a lot more out of me than I realised". That's what they did tonight, and the better man won on the day. Farah had romped to victory in the longer event on the opening night of the championships last weekend.

In a thrilling finale featuring four athletes careering towards the line, Farah snatched back second place behind Edris, who clocked 13 minutes 32.79 seconds (13:32.79) after a searing final lap of 52.6 seconds.

"It doesn't quite hit you until you compete here until after crossing the line and having a few minutes to myself, you realise this is it".

"For me that still has to be Haile Gebrselassie, for the distances that he covered, the titles he won and the world records he broke".

"I got boxed in early on (in the final charge) - it doesn't normally happen - and couldn't get out".

Meanwhile, Katarina Johnson-Thompson and Morgan Lake finished fifth and sixth respectively in the women's high jump.
