NYPD officer shot in Brooklyn: Police

Police said Thursday they're looking for two men in connection with a string of Brooklyn robberies between April and July.

"As the first officer approached the rear bedroom, the subject fired several shots, striking the officer several times", O'Neill said. He did not return fire.

According to the Associated Press, the gunman then barricaded himself in, prompting an hours-long standoff.

When the emergency services unit made it inside, they found the suspect dead with a self-inflicted gunshot wound with two guns laying by his side, along with ammunition.

Mayor Bill de Blasio has been briefed on the shooting, according to a tweet from his office.

Police said the shooting began shortly after the woman's call about her son, whom she said was not violent and unarmed.

Officers arrived at the home, where they talked with the mother of the suspected gunman, police said.

In addition to the weapons, the shooter had a good amount of pills and had recently gotten a new BMW, which has raised questions about how he funded the vehicle and what he was doing with the medication, police said.

"What could have been just another day, just another call turned into something much worse, and thank God our officer's going to come through it", de Blasio said. "This young man was definitely saved by his vest".

Police have not yet identified the suspect.

The 30-year-old officer works out of the 75th precinct and has two years on the force. He tweeted about the standoff from Jamaica Hospital Medical Center.
