During the attempted arrest the suspect shot the officer three times

The shooting took place just after 11 a.m. on January 1, 2016 when Smith responded to calls from a store in Hampton County, S.C. of a man attempting to snatch groceries from customers.

-Malcolm Antwan Orr, the suspect, shot Officer Smith several times, severing a vein in his neck and shattering bones.

Officer Quincy Smith caught the terrifying ordeal on a bodycam, begging fellow officers over his radio: "Tell my family I love them".

The horrific scene and near death of Smith was captured on the video released Thursday, a day after the conviction and sentencing of Orr, who faces 35 years in prison for attempted murder and gun-related charges, South Carolina's 14th Circuit's Solicitor's Office said in a news release.

A violent attack on a SC police officer previous year was caught on a small camera attached to the officer's glasses, and that footage helped put away a suspect in an attempted murder case.

Smith radios in, "Dispatch E7, I will be out with that subject".

This decision comes after a two-day trial at the Hampton County Courthouse.

Orr continues to ignore the officer and does not even take his mobile phone away from his ear, even after Smith threatens to Taser him.

Trump held 'major briefing' on opioid crisis
In 2015 alone, approximately 35,000 people died of heroin or opioid overdoses, according to the National Institute on Drug Abuse . Trump did not address any of the recommendations. "The president understands the magnitude of this challenge", Price said.

Officer Smith was responding to a call regarding attempted theft of groceries from store customers when he noticed Orr walking from the store.

The prosecutor added that the gunman shot Smith at least twice while the officer was laying on the round.

At about 11 a.m., Smith responded to a suspicious persons call at the Charles Party Shop along USA 321. He fires off at least eight rounds, hitting Smith at least three times.

A SC man has been sentenced to 35 years in prison after a police officer's eyeglass camera recorded the man shooting him. "Stay with me, man", as he struggles to figure out how he can best help Smith, who goes to the ground outside his patrol vehicle. The officer exits the vehicle and asks the suspect to "come here".

An ambulance arrives and treats Smith for his injuries. Orr would neither stop nor remove his hand from his pocket.

Dispatch informs all available units to respond to the area, as Smith tells them he's been hit in the neck. Eventually he pulled a pistol and began firing.

But Smith said he forgives Orr - and even prays for him and his family.
