Trump attacks US Senate leader McConnell over health care failure

Senate majority leader Mitch McConnell vents about Trump's 'excessive expectations' regarding legislation

Republicans in the Senate had failed to pass a plan last month to repeal and replace Obamacare. "@SenateMajLdr must have needed another 4 years - in addition to the 7 years - to repeal and replace Obamacare...."

McConnell spokesman David Popp said in an email that the majority leader has already spoken about the path forward on Obamacare repeal and had no further comment. Trump followed up this tweet on Thursday, Aug. 10, and again called out McConnell for similar reasons.

Even as the Trump White House continues to calibrate the right response to the news that North Korea may have miniaturized a nuclear weapon, President Donald Trump started a very public fight with the most powerful Republican in the Senate.

"Senator Mitch McConnell said I had 'excessive expectations, ' but I don't think so", Mr Trump tweeted.

"Let's start with 'Ditch Mitch.' And [House Speaker Paul] Ryan, don't get the idea that means you are off the hook either".

In an earlier tweet on Wednesday, Dan Scavino Jr., the White House social media director, also took aim at McConnell. The attacks are a risky approach considering Trump's slumping job approval ratings among his most fervent supporters.

Investors take a breath as US Stocks end winning streak
A majority of the major sectors have moved lower on the day, although most are showing relatively modest moves to the downside. Declining issues outnumbered advancing ones on the NYSE by a 1.14-to-1 ratio; on Nasdaq , a 1.11-to-1 ratio favored advancers.

"While Congress is dithering about keeping its promise to repeal [Obamacare] President Trump is keeping his promises with rapid-fire speed". "I think it would be helpful if the president was a little more on message". But to do it involved taxing wealthy households, pharmaceutical companies, and medical device manufacturers while extending tax credits to low-income earners - in other words, the kind of stuff Republicans abhor.

Trump mentioned dealing with Congress a few times throughout his 2016 presidential campaign, including saying "you have to get everybody in a room, and you have to get them to agree" at an ABC News debate in New Hampshire in February.

GOP Senator Lindsey Graham, however, conceded that President Trump's impatience was a least partly warranted.

"So, I say very simply, 'Where is repeal and replace?' Now I want tax reform and tax cuts".

A massive tax reform package should have been done by now, based on Trump's initial timetable, and an infrastructure package should have been on the way.
