A U.S. Navy fighter jet was forced to take evasive action after an Iranian drone came far too close to the plane on Tuesday.

The "QOM-1" drone came within 100 feet below the aircraft and 200 feet to the side of the aircraft.

The drone, which reportedly appeared unarmed, caused a US Navy F/A-18E jet to repeatedly manouver to avoid a collision as it attempted to land on the USS Nimitz, CNN reported. It did eventually move off.

US Naval Forces Central Command issued a statement later Tuesday confirming the incident.

The near-collision marked the "13th unsafe and/or professional interaction between USA and Iranian maritime forces" this year, according to the Navy and Central Command statements.

However, Lathem and Warren's relationship with each other ( as well as Warren's link to Cornell-Duranleau ) is unknown. "The U.S. Cornell-Duranleau moved to Chicago from the Grand Rapids, Michigan, area after receiving his cosmetology license.

"The unsafe maneuver by the QOM-1 in the known vicinity of fixed wing flight operations ... created a collision hazard and is not in keeping with global maritime customs and laws", the statement read. The Navy deemed the interaction unsafe and unprofessional.

The U.S. and Iran have had multiple close encounters in the Arabian Gulf, also known as the Persian Gulf.

According to Navy officials, this is the 13th "unprofessional" encounter between USA and Iranian maritime forces this year.

The Navy said the action by the Iranian QOM-1 drone "created a collision hazard and is not in keeping with worldwide maritime customs and laws".

The Navy has said the helicopter was on a routine patrol in worldwide airspace and that the flare was sacked after American ships saw the Guard vessels approaching at a high rate of speed and not responding to communications.
