Jay Cutler doesn't change Dolphins' 2017 season outlook

Would you take $10 million to quarterback the Dolphins for one year?

The whirlwind that began last Thursday when Ryan Tannehill hit the turf after re-injuring his left knee hit its climax on Sunday when reports emerged that Miami would be signing veteran quarterback Jay Cutler. The deal with Cutler signals the Dolphins anticipate a lengthy recovery for Tannehill.

While mostly viewed as a foregone conclusion already, Miami Dolphins coach Adam Gase is leaving little doubt Jay Cutler will be his starting quarterback heading into Week 1.

Either way, Cutler chose to un-retire and join the Miami Dolphins.

Here's something far more interesting: the Dolphins supposedly "bandied" other names during the QB search, and Tim Tebow was among them. "I'd probably say my wife Kristin probably talked me into it more than anybody else could".

Cutler missed Monday's practice because it took place as he landed in South Florida to sign a $10 million, one-year contract.

Cutler doesn't come to the Dolphins as a savior. In Gase's only season with the Bears (2015), Cutler had arguably his best career season, completing 64.4% of his passes for 3,659 yards, 21 touchdowns and only 11 interceptions.

For New England, this means when they play Miami in weeks 12 and 14, they could be facing Cuter, or Moore if the predictable happens.

Jay Ajayi will have to carry a massive load this season to keep the pressure off of Cutler. Cutler underwent season-ending surgery last December. He is just in a much better situation. We know he lost the locker room in Chicago and had bad body language and simply wasn't a very good leader in Chicago prior to Gase getting a hold of him.

"He's excited, he's excited to get back down here, he's excited to get back in the building with Gase, He wasn't ready to fully hang it up yet and I feel him, I understand where he's coming from", Bushrod said.
