ECB said they had not received any approach from their South Africa counterparts for Ottis Gibson

England bowling coach Ottis Gibson has reportedly emerged as the frontrunner to replace Russell Domingo as South Africa's head coach.

Earlier, wicketkeeper-batsman Jonny Bairstow, who became the 15th England batsman to be out one short of his century, added 50 runs for the final wicket in alliance with Anderson, helped England post 362 in their first innings. He also has a good coaching pedigree having left his first spell with England to take over his native West Indies, who he led to the 2012 World T20 title.

Moeen Ali brought up his half century in style in England's second innings of the third Test against South Africa on Sunday as the all-rounder picked out Jonny Bairstow with a huge six.

But Moeen - dropped at slip by Dean Elgar off Keshav Maharaj when just 15 - had other ideas, taking the attack to the tourists to the delight of an increasingly raucous crowd, who took particular pleasure in the left-hander thrice depositing his spin counterpart over the ropes.

The 35-year-old said he could not care less who closes out the South Africa innings as England continue on their path towards a 3-1 series win.

But Moeen took the game to the left-arm spinner, putting on a 58-run partnership with Toby Roland-Jones and eliminating the concern over the rough with positive footwork.

At stumps on day one of the Old Trafford Test, England were positioned 260 for six.

Three times Moeen hit Maharaj for six and his confidence, shot selection and execution raised the question of why he is batting down at number eight.

Moeen struck three sixes on his way to 67 not out off 59 balls before rain ended play for the day with England leading by 360 runs after bowling South Africa out for 226 in the visitors' first innings. Saker is now the Baggy Green's fast-bowling coach and is set to face his old employers this summer.

Morne Morkel was luckless yet terrific right through the series.

It would leave England searching to appoint a replacement before the start of this winter's Ashes in November, with former Australia bowler and Yorkshire coach Jason Gillespie a possible interim appointment for that series.

Theunis de Bruyn tried to drive a full-length delivery from Anderson but was undone by the movement and edged to England skipper Joe Root at second slip.
