Witnesses said it was a typical landing until the emergency door opened and the plane filled with sunlight. Passengers also said the teen looked "fidgety" and "anxious".

The teen, a USA citizen, was flying by himself from Panama City, Panama, to San Francisco and appeared to be in emotional distress during the flight, said San Francisco Airport spokesman Doug Yakel.

The teenager reportedly jumped out of his seat, opened the door, slid onto the wing and eventually jumped to the tarmac where he was confronted by an airfield construction crew working nearby. "So said passenger opens the over wing emergency exit and jumps out on to runway 28L".

20 killed in Shiite mosque attack in Afghanistan
Areas dominated by Shia Muslims in Afghanistan have been hit by attacks repeatedly in the past year, by both IS and the Taliban. About 30 people are said to be wounded, and local officials say the death toll is expected to rise.

"It was as if he was like flying out, like it was really fast", passenger Sophia Gibson of San Jose, California told broadcaster KNTV.

It's a violation of federal law to open the doors without an instruction from crew members. Relay the message back. 'It was pretty insane'.

Passengers of a Copa Airlines flight say a teenage boy who opened an emergency door and jumped to a tarmac was very quick and that people sitting next to him didn't have time to stop him. After a year full of stories of passenger abuse, just this Monday, passengers on a stranded plane were so desperate after being stuck for six hours on a runway in Ottawa that one of them called 911. The American Airlines flight 5242 was preparing for takeoff from the terminal at Charlotte Douglas International Airport.
