Noble Partner exercises underway in Georgia

The two-week drills taking place at the Vaziani military base near Tbilisi involve about 2,800 soldiers from the United States, Georgia, Britain, Germany, Turkey, Ukraine, Slovenia and Armenia.

Pence indicated the US was willing to improve ties with Russian Federation but for that to happen "Russia has to change its behavior", he said, referring to Russia's support for separatists in eastern Ukraine and for Syrian President Bashar Assad.

The visit comes a day after Pence met with the presidents of three North Atlantic Treaty Organisation countries - Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania - in the Estonian capital of Tallinn and pledged that "an attack on one of us is an attack on us all".

The Vice President called on Europe to match U.S. President Donald Trump's "clear message".

At an official dinner in the Georgian capital late on July 31, Pence said, "We stand with you, for your freedom and for our shared values".

"President Trump signed a document on the implementation of sanctions against Russian Federation".

Pence reiterated the US non-recognition policy regarding the Russian-occupied zone, condemning Moscow's presence on Georgian soil, what many observers describe as an evolving, "creeping" occupation.

During his visit, Pence attended Georgian-American military exercises, which began in Georgia on Sunday.

It also imposes restrictions on anyone involved in Iran's ballistic missile program and those who do business with them. The measure would apply terrorism sanctions to the country's Revolutionary Guards and enforce an arms embargo.

About 1,600 USA troops and 800 Georgian soldiers are taking part in the two-week exercises, dubbed Noble Partner.

Pence arrived in Tbilisi from Estonia, where he reaffirmed Washington's solidarity with the Baltic nations and accused neighboring Russian Federation of seeking to "redraw global borders" and "undermine democracies".

The vice president also explicitly promised that the United States would meet its obligations under NATO's Article 5 mutual defense pledge to come to the aid of a member nation who is attacked.

"Thanks to your help, Georgia is no longer a Soviet or a post-Soviet country", said Kvirikashvili at Tuesday's joint press conference. We see Georgia as a key strategic partner.

The United States has sent some of its M1A2 Abrams main battle tanks and M2 Bradley infantry fighting vehicles across the Black Sea for the drills, which will last until August 12.

Ms. Sanders also declined to say when Mr. Trump planned to sign the sanctions legislation, which passed with overwhelming, veto-proof majorities in both the House and the Senate.
