Boston announced the move ahead Price's scheduled start Friday night against Kansas City. All that wear and tear is beginning to show.

Fred Toucher of 98.5 The Sports Hub in Boston was told by a source that Dustin Pedroia "aggressively" cheered for Price when Price told Eckersley to "get the f- out of here" on a team charter plane last month.

The Boston Globe's Dan Shaughnessy first reported Friday morning that Price's "elbow is barking again", with The Boston Herald's Michael Silverman following it up with a report stating that Price will "likely" be scratched from his start against the Royals at Fenway Park with a forearm issue. Price's official diagnosis is left elbow inflammation, similar to what cost him the start of the season and required trips to several prominent orthopedic surgeons.

Already making 11 starts for the Red Sox thus far into 2017, the seasoned southpaw has amassed a 3.82 ERA across an even 66 innings of work in all. Price has put together stretches of dominance here and there in his time with the Red Sox, but things have just looked off with him. That is, of course, subject to change if more bad news about his health emerges down the line.

The 31-year-old left-hander signed a seven-year, $217 million contract with the Sox prior to the 2016 season.
