WhatsApp hits a billion users a DAY (and in February last year it was only being used by a billion a month)

To recall, in 2014 the messaging platform had around 450 million monthly users when it was acquired by the social media giant Facebook.

Asked yesterday by an analyst about WhatsApp's revenue prospects compared to Messenger, Facebook's CFO, David Wehner, said the company isn't sharing detailed engagement figures by messaging platform, but noted differences in usage for each by region.

The chat app has revealed that it now has 1 billion daily active users and there are 1.3 billion monthly active users of the app. India has been one of the strongest markets for WhatsApp, in February this year the company announced that the active users in India have clocked an impressive 200 million.

The company said users are now sending 55 billion messages, 4.5 billion photos and 1 billion videos on a daily basis.

The eight-year old messaging app WhatsApp is now used by one billion people every day. These media files include photos, videos, etc.

Furthermore, the service also brings in 1.3 billion monthly active users and supports 60 languages. The application now supports 60 languages across the globe. We have been getting an increasing number of reports about them over the past couple of days. Whatsapp Status, its version of Snapchat Stories now has 250 million daily active users. Our community is now more than 2 billion people, including more than 1.3 billion people who use Facebook every day.

For comparison, Facebook announced back in June that it's now at around 2 billion monthly users as Facebook Messenger alone surpassed 1.2 billion monthly users as of April. This only goes to show how popular WhatsApp really is and how people are taking advantage of the service effectively across the globe.
