NSA meets top diplomat Yang Jiechi

China will protect border with India 'at all costs'

Officials confirmed that Doval, who will be taking part in the BRICS NSAs meeting in Beijing will be meeting President Xi.

Doval is in Beijing to attend a two-day BRICS security summit but the focus has been on his bilateral interactions with the Chinese leadership against the backdrop of the standoff and intense speculation on whether the two sides would begin a conversation to ease tensions, if not resolve the impasse. Yang is hosting this meeting. Mr Doval and Mr Yang are Special Representatives of the India-China border mechanism.

China, which now holds the presidency of the five-member group, will host the 2017 Brics summit in September at Xiamen city.

The Doklam standoff is likely to dominate Doval's agenda and he is expected to speak to China's State Councillor Yang Jiechi to find a solution to the month-long standoff.

In June, Beijing announced the construction of a road in Doklam, an area the sovereuingty of which is claimed by Bhutan, a demand also supported by New Delhi. Bhutan, according to the press release, had conveyed to China, both on the ground and through the diplomatic channel, that the construction of the road in its territory was "a direct violation of the agreements between China and Bhutan signed in 1988 and 1998".

British Open: Branden Grace shoots 62 to break 44-year-old record
The par-3 14th fell next, leaving him on the verge of history, and a 35-foot birdie putt across the 16th green moved him closer . Li's flawless seven-under round started slowly with seven consecutive pars before he picked up shots at eight and nine.

Ms. Swaraj maintained that despite commitment to improve bilateral ties, India had not hesitated to protest whenever differences arose with China about issues like stapled visas for Indian citizens from Arunachal or the visit of Dalai Lama to Tawang.

This is seen as a signal from the top leadership that any possibility of a military conflict should be avoided because India is an important market for Chinese business. "India may make some requests as a bargaining chip for its pulling out troops", Ma said. "Our policy has been made very clear". Lu, however, declined to react to reports that both sides have deployed over 3,000 troops each at Dokalam, saying the question should be referred to the Chinese defence ministry.

China on June 26 alleged that Indian troops crossed the boundary line in the Sikkim sector of the China-India boundary. "I want to stress that this is precondition for any meaningful talks between the two sides".

This is the first time in weeks that the official media ran a commentary without demanding withdrawal of Indian troops from the disputed Doklam region.
