Escaped Inmate Back In Custody

Cops are on the hunt for an inmate who managed to escape from Rikers Island on Wednesday night, according to police sources.

Rikers staff discovered Hill was missing at about 7:30 p.m. while doing a head count, officials said.

"A thorough investigation is underway, which includes an active search for this individual in coordination with NYPD", Thorne said in the statement. "Rikers Island facilities have been placed on lockdown and we are talking to anyone who may be involved". Police vehicles, many with their lights flashing, were seen coming to and from the island.

But during the lockdown, Q100 Metropolitan Transportation Authority bus service was suspended.

"They did not report any information to you at all", one woman said. "We were on the bus since 7:15".

The corrections workers went to hand batteries to members of the search units when they spotted the inmate at the trailer, who then jumped in front of their auto.

The law enforcement sources added that he jumped over a fence at the C-95 jail, also known as AMKC, which houses about 3,000 inmates. Busloads of relatives of inmates arrived after waiting for some four hours after being held during the search of the island.

Authorities have been searching for him in the waters near LaGuardia Airport and other areas nearby.
