Sushma Swaraj to hold talks with Iraqi counterpart on Indians abducted by IS

"We're not 100 per cent sure whether they're alive or not, we don't know". Al Jafari, however, sounded ambivalent about whether or not any such information about the Indians being in Badush was provided by Iraqi authorities to India.

In June 2014, it was reported that 40 Indian labourers had been abducted by Islamic State militants from a construction site near Mosul, where they were working.

Al-Jaafari, who is on a visit to India from July 24 to July 28, met with Swaraj for a discussion on bilateral relations between the two nations.

In a major setback to India's efforts to trace the missing Indians in Iraq, the Iraqi Foreign Minister said that he is not sure about the fate of 39 missing Indians.

After Swaraj's statement which suggested that missing Indians may be alive in prison in Iraq, India Today travelled to Mosul. She informed them the missing people could be imprisoned in the Badush region of northwest Mosul.

As he pleaded for his release during the hearing, Simpson said: "I've done my time". "No sir, I did not", Fromong said. Although Simpson has had quite a few run-ins with the legal system, he believes he's had a pretty innocent life.

The minister also claimed that Singh's visit took place "before the liberation" of all the areas.

Dr. Ibrahim will meet External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj at the Jawaharlal Nehru Bhawan to hold discussion on the entire gamut of bilateral relations between both the countries, as well as regional and worldwide issues of mutual interest.

The recent media reports from Iraq however made it clear that the Iraqi Army had already taken over Badush from the IS in March itself and the prison had been largely razed due to the war.

More than 10,000 Indians fled Iraq amid the upsurge in violence in 2014, including dozens of nurses who were held briefly by suspected ISIS terrorists in Tikrit and Mosul before being allowed to return home. The Indian government has so far maintained that there was no direct proof that they had been killed, as alleged by the sole survivor. "Until the rubble is removed, we can only assume that they are alive and search is going to be continued", he said. "It was not a misleading of information, it was rather facts on the ground which at that time was determined as true", he said.
