Andrew Luck to begin training camp on PUP list

Of the four players placed on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list by the Colts on Monday, only safety Clayton Geathers is not expected to be activated in time for the regular-season opener. It's still unclear when he will be cleared to practice, but general manager Chris Ballard says he is hopeful that Luck will be activated before the September 10 season opener in Los Angeles against the Rams.

The Colts have good news and bad news.

Luck has endured two up-and-down seasons since his breakout 2014 year where he threw for 40 touchdowns.

Geathers suffered a neck injury on a fourth-down tackle during a November win against Tennessee and missed the final six games of 2016. He's worked hard, he's done everything from a rehab standpoint.

"I'm comfortable when our doctors clear him and say he's ready to play. whether that means he plays in preseason, doesn't play in preseason, " Ballard said.

"I believe you have a role to play... as does another", Melisandre says. This year's Game of Thrones Comic-Con panel was pretty unique.

For Luck's preseason plans, Ballard is not banking on his quarterback getting game action before Week 1. And then once we get to practice, then the next step will be games. "I think having both Malik and Butler out there gives you some flexibility on defense to be able to match up against spread formations".

The bad news is he's not ready to start training camp with the rest of his teammates.

Looking for the next update on Luck should come Sunday, when Chuck Pagano meets the media prior to the team's first Training Camp practice. He still is not healthy enough to undergo the full rigors of training camp, but all of that will come one step at a time.

"The reason we're doing the PUP is we don't want him standing around watching practice". The recovery timetable should have given Geathers adequate time to prepare and heal for the 2017 season. "When we get into pads is when you really start seeing the reflection of your coaches and how your team plays on the field".
