Manchester City are on the cusp of landing their fourth major signing of the summer after reportedly agreeing a fee for Monaco defender Benjamin Mendy.

Monaco appear to have become increasingly hardball in their transfer negotiations this summer, after already losing Silva and defensive midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko, sold to Chelsea for £40m, from last season's Ligue 1-winning squad.

According to BBC Sport, Pep Guardiola's side are said to have agreed terms with the Principality club for Mendy, 23, a France worldwide who was instrumental in his team's unexpected charge to Ligue 1 glory last season.

City's business is unlikely to end with the acquisition of Mendy.

It is unclear, however, how payments will be handled and if Facebook would take a cut of subscription sales. Facebook confirmed Brown's remarks, which were reported by the business website The Street .

Manchester City, who are yet to confirm the deal, is trying to boost its defence ahead of the new Premier League season, which gets underway on August 11.

Man City manager Pep Guardiola highlighted the wing-back positions as one of his side's weaker spots, following a relatively disappointing 2016/17 campaign where the team finished 4 with no trophy wins.

The French champions seemingly want City to match the fee they paid Tottenham for Kyle Walker as they feel Mendy is a better player and four years younger than the England International.

And he is to be quickly followed by the arrival of Real Madrid defender Danilo, with talks over a £26.5m move for the Brazil worldwide progressing well.
