Before going deep, Aaron Judge hadn't hit a homer in his first 30 at-bats since winning the Home Run Derby - the fifth-longest stretch ever for a victor, according to the Elias Sports Bureau.

With the Yankees leading by run in the fifth inning, Judge added to his Major League lead by hitting a three-run homer to left that landed in the third-to-last row of the left field upper deck. No one has hit one out of Safeco during a game since the ballpark opened midway through the 1999 season.

"You think people would get bored seeing him hit a ball that far, but he surprises everybody every time he goes out there and hits a ball in a spot where no one else can", Yankees rookie outfielder Clint Frazier said.

Merrifield's game-ending fly scored Alcides Escobar, who led off the inning with a single. The veteran blanked Boston on two hits over six innings on Sunday in his second start since returning from a hamstring injury.
