In 2008, Simpson was found guilty of robbing two sports memorabilia dealers at gunpoint in a Las Vegas hotel room. Simpson was granted parole on a few charges in 2013, but was sentenced to return to prison for other charges that he was not yet eligible for parole for. Simpson has served more than nine years of a sentence that was nine years to 33 years, and Roger believes the parole board will see that as enough time.

If the hearing is successful for Simpson, he could be a free man as early as October. Both of those series centered around the murder of Simpson's ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend, Ronald Goldman, and Simpson's subsequent acquittal of both murders after a high-profile jury trial in 1995.

In Simpson's case, the parole board meeting will be considering several factors before making a definitive statement about whether they will grant him parole.

On FX's Emmy-winning "The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story", the Furhman character was played by Steven Pasquale and appeared in five out of 10 episodes.

The so-called "Trial of the Century" captivated the country again a year ago with the release of an Emmy-winning FX miniseries that dramatized the legal saga and an Oscar-winning ESPN documentary that delved into the social issues surrounding it.

It certainly aims to have a lot of fun with the character, which it does succeed at but there's more than just that. Spider-Man: Homecoming was released this past weekend to great box office numbers and glowing critical reviews.

Those involved with the 2007 robbery attempt say Simpson didn't seem to think he would face this type of punishment.

"O.J. just feels the media is working against him, the hype is working against him", he said.

If it is denied, Simpson would have to wait another four years to apply for parole again. Scotto said he has visited Simpson in Lovelock every two months and the two speak by phone regularly. A decision from the parole board is expected on the day of the hearing.

Simpson, charged with robbery, attempted kidnapping, and assault with a deadly weapon, won parole in 2013 on the weapons charges, and now is seeking release on the remaining ones.
