Disney Announces The Lead Actors For Guy Ritchie's Live-Action Aladdin

After a lengthy casting process, Disney has tapped Mena Massoud and Naomi Scott to portray Aladdin and Princess Jasmine in the upcoming retelling of the classic fairytale. His co-star as Princess Jasmine will be English actress Naomi Scott, who is partially of Gujarati heritage.

The announcement comes after reports that the film was having a lot of trouble casting its lead role.

Massoud is part of the cast of Amazon's Jack Ryan series starring John Krasinski, and previously appeared in the TeenNick series Open Heart. The studio was said to be looking for an actor of Middle-Eastern or Indian descent in his 20s who can sing and dance, which apparently proved "difficult".

What are your thoughts on Will Smith being cast as Genie in the live-action Aladdin film? While Scott has some high-profile work to her name such as "Power Rangers", Massoud (pictured below) is more of a newbie.

Officer Olden said people first though the note was a joke , but someone eventually took it seriously and called police . Due to the unusual situation, police couldn't classify the incident as a crime, so they freed the man and let him go.

The role of Genie was originated by late comedian, Robin Williams.

Although Disney is still on the hunt to fill the roles of the Jafar, the Sultan, and Iago, filming is set to begin in London in August.

The Aladdin remake follows a successful live-action retelling of "Beauty and the Beast" released earlier this year.

The film - which was the highest grossing of that year - told the story of Aladdin a young street urchin who falls in love with the attractive princess Jasmine.
