While the meeting itself focused on the Russian ban on adoption of Russian children by American parents, emails from Trump Jr. show that he was promised information that would compromise Hillary Clinton, purportedly as part of a Russian effort to help his father.

Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley and Ranking Member Dianne Feinstein will request Donald Trump Jr. testify before the committee.

While the committee has not confirmed that they have invited or plan to invite Trump Jr.to testify, Sen.

Manafort resigned from Trump's campaign on August 19, just 3 months after becoming chairman, after NYT broke news of his firm's work with Ukrainian oligarchs.

News outlets reported late in June Manafort recently registered as a foreign agent with the U.S. Justice Department.

U.S. House of Representatives Speaker Paul Ryan on Thursday urged President Donald Trump's eldest son to testify to a congressional committee about alleged links between Trump's team and Russian Federation in the 2016 presidential election campaign.

"Mr. Manafort must answer questions about his deeply disturbing - and possibly criminal - conduct throughout the campaign, including recent revelations that he joined a meeting with President Trump's son and a Russian agent to seek "dirt" on Hilary Clinton", Blumenthal said in a written statement.

Some of the tips they've received are "bearing fruit", Bucks County District Attorney Matthew Weintraub told reporters Wednesday. Patrick, the first of the four to go missing, just finished his first year at Loyola University in Maryland, a Jesuit school.

Grassley said the committee would call Manafort to testify to learn why he didn't file as a foreign agent before becoming involved in the USA presidential campaign.

Separately, Representative Adam Schiff, the top Democrat on the House intelligence committee, said his panel wants to look at the use of Russian social media "trolls" and whether they were connected to the Trump election campaign.

"It is unclear how she was still in the country for that meeting despite being denied a visa beforehand and her parole purportedly expiring on January 7, 2016".

When asked what he intended on asking Trump Jr., Graham responded, "Well, you'll need to listen to the hearing".

CNN reported earlier on Thursday that Grassley planned to issue the hearing invitation and would issue a subpoena if necessary.

President Donald Trump announced his nominee for Federal Bureau of Investigation director in a post on Twitter June 7.

The Iowa Republican told reporters he thinks there has been "lackadaisical enforcement" by the Trump and Obama administrations.
