There's a chance of showers, and possibly an afternoon thunderstorm, again on Friday, although the temperature will cooler, dropping into the low 70s, the weather service said. The Flood Watch is in effect for Livingston, Macomb, Oakland, Washtenaw, and Wayne counties.

The watch area includes Ulster, Dutchess, Greene and Columbia counites as well as the Albany area, the Mohawk Valley and western MA.

The Weather Service warns that in hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are potentially risky in heavy rain.

Also included in the Flash Flood Warning is all of Kane County and northwestern Will County. The warning was issued at 4:51 p.m.

When facing a flood, Turn Around Don't Drown: The National Weather Service reports that more deaths happen every year due to flooding than any other weather-related hazard. Scattered storms are possible later today as well, but I don't expect anything close to what we're seeing early this morning. Do not attempt to cross flooded roads; find an alternate route.

Flash flooding creates a very unsafe situation.

Those storms could produce large hail, damaging wind gusts and very heavy rainfall resulting in additional flash flooding. Genesee County Central Dispatch said the center lane is reported to be impassable. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.

Tuesday's low in Madison was 66 at 2:57 a.m., 5 degrees above the normal low and 20 degrees above the record low of 46 for July 11, set in 1968 and 1978. These rains and flooding situation triggered by the rainfall continues till September.

A flash food watch means that conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding.
