China: India 'trampled' worldwide law, treaty in border standoff

India forges ahead with 'Act East' policy amid territorial dispute with China

Tensions over the border are heightened again.

Tensions rose after China began building a road linking to the Sikkim-Bhutan-Tibet tri-junction area in a move India fears would give China a major upper hand in any potential conflict.

In his monologue in English, Li Ya claims credibility in offering China's view given his "first-hand knowledge" of the border areas.

The Chinese bullying and pricking India through a standoff with the Indian security forces in the Doklam area near Sikkim to pressurise this country to willy-nilly to accept the China-Pak Economic Corridor which is a dream project of Beijing.

"Under the pretext of protecting Bhutan, India has illegally entered China's territory hindering negotiation process between China and Bhutan", the official added.

"I can say that we have been stressing that Doklam belongs to China since ancient times".

"Today the Chinese border troops still patrol there and the herdsmen graze their livestock there, and production and living facilities have been built there", he said. "Using the excuse of "helping Bhutan protect its sovereignty", India brazenly obstructs China's road construction in Chinese territory". But he said he was "baffled" as to why the dispute flared up now.

India is concerned about how much access the road would allow China's military at such a strategic point.

Beijing says the atmosphere is not right for a formal or bilateral meeting between both the leaders-Xi Jinping and Narendra Modi. An editorial in the Global Times said that China should strongly consider "fuelling" pro-independence movement in Sikkim which borders the east Asian nation. Bhutan may decide to depend less and less on India for its national security.

Talking about how Sikkim became a part of India, the editorial said: "New Delhi deposed the king of Sikkim in 1975 and manipulated the country's parliament into a referendum to make Sikkim a state of India".

Urging the world to "pay attention to New Delhi's bullying of tiny Himalayan countries", the Global Times edit said China should "lead the worldwide community in restoring Bhutan's diplomatic and defense sovereignty". Moreover, the communication lines between the two countries are open both at Army and diplomatic levels.

Mentioning the way to overpower India, the editorial suggested Beijing to adjust its stance on India-sensitive issues that could be a powerful card to deal with New Delhi.

Last week, Chinese defence spokesman Colonel Wu Qin told that the trials of the tank, reportedly weighing about 35 tonnes, were taking place during military exercises. The summit is scheduled to be held on 7 and 8 July.

Each side has about 3,000 soldiers facing off across the remote plateau where Tibet meets Sikkim and Bhutan, according to Indian media reports.

China also warned India to not forget the "history lessons" of the 1962 war, referring to the Sino-Indian war that ended badly for New Delhi.
