No reason to cry for Manny Pacquiao after loss

Jeff Horn took the WBO welterweight world title from Manny Pacquiao in an extremely high profile match on Sunday at the Brisbane stadium formerly known as Lang Park, thanks to a unanimous ruling from the judges.

"He was quick when he put combinations together but I felt controlling the gap made it easier to see the punches coming", Horn said.

Horn has celebrated with his inner circle after his historic victory over Pacquiao in Brisbane, spending the night reflecting on his new status as a world champion, and says it's starting to sink in.

While the verdict was questioned by many, who pointed to Pacquiao landing a much higher percentage of punches and nearly stopping his opponent in the ninth round, Roach said: "It went the other way and we have to live with that".

Horn troubled the overwhelming favourite over the middle part of the fight but Pacquiao was beginning to warm to his task in the eighth and a ferocious assault in the ninth seriously wobbled his opponent. It looked as if his afternoon would be over but he somehow stayed upright and made it to his chair.

Pacquiao had won the WBO title on points against Jessie Vargas in November.

Pacquiao's close loss to Horn had Roach contemplating if his ward is done being a boxer.

"Manny Pacquiao is an absolute warrior, a legend of the sport".

By increasing the overall level of downforce front and rear, but also improving the balance of the vehicle we've done just that. New dive planes generate further downforce , and the whole clamshell engine cover is now 5kg lighter than it was before.

Pacquiao's conditioning trainer, the Los Angeles-based former Australian heavyweight Justin Fortune, was critical of the referee and the judging. "I'm going to talk to Manny about maybe calling it a day, maybe this is it", Roach said.

Pacquiao, 38, was knocked off his stride by the taller and heavier man in the early rounds.

That should get him another fight or two, though not at the rate of pay to which he's become accustomed.

"If they let Manny fight again, that's stupid", said the Australian great. "I don't go there and teach but I still go to the schools and I know the kids will be proud of what I have done". "Hopefully he comes back in the rematch and beats Horn just like he did to Tim Bradley after losing that first fight, which was also a bulls-- decision".

"You're not supposed to get it for trying hard!"

He was expected to overcome the unheralded Horn in an effort to entice Mayweather into a rematch of their super-fight, but the unbeaten Australian rose to the occasion in what was only his 18th fight in the paid ranks.

"The face is actually feeling pretty good if I don't touch it, " he said.
