A Teen Was Charged With Killing Her Boyfriend During A Failed YouTube Stunt

A Minnesota teenager allegedly killed her boyfriend while trying to film a unsafe stunt for their YouTube channel.

A 19-year-old Minnesota woman shot her boyfriend in the chest as part of a Youtube video stunt gone wrong, police said.

Prior to the stunt, Perez tweeted the video was unsafe and says it was all Ruiz's idea. A med helicopter was called in as first responders performed chest compressions on Ruiz, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Their three-year-old daughter was allegedly in the room at the time of the shooting, at around 6.30pm on Monday evening. She said he had shown her another book which he shot, but which managed to block the bullet.

However, defending the two, she said that it was just a prank which had gone wrong. "It shouldn't have happened at all". She is now pregnant with their second child.

If convicted, Perez could face a maximum sentence of 10 years and a fine of up to $20,000 (£15,000).

Perez appeared in court on Wednesday, and was released on $7,000 bail.

The idea was for him to hold a thick book in front of his chest, which would stop the bullet as she fired at him with a gun.

"He had told me about that idea", Ruiz's aunt told reports. The Minnesota Star-Tribune reported she is also charged with second-degree manslaughter.

The pair had been filming the stunt on a GoPro in an attempt to gain more followers on their YouTube channel, authorities told NBC.

According to the criminal complaint, Perez who has been arrested wanted to grow her YouTube channel by performing daredevil stunts on camera.

According to Ruiz's aunt, the couple wanted to get "more viewers".

The couple had been busy creating videos, with 18 posted within the last month. Mr Ruiz had told a relative: "We want to get famous". I said, don't do it, don't do it.
