"No Religion" is now Australia's largest religious group at 30.1% according to the latest Census data. The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) pulse has also updated the estimated resident population in Australia, which has become a home to 24.4 million people by December 31, 2016.

Australians are finding it more hard than ever to own a home with record lows not seen since the 1950s.

Australian Statistician David Kalisch said the range of Census data would provide insights into the makeup of the Australian population and will be used to guide critical decisions over the coming years.

The latest 2016 Census data assesses what the national home ownership and rental rates are and how these vary location.

Fifty years ago, census data showed that more than 88% of the country was Christian.

The Salt Shakers, a "Christian ethics action group" based in Melbourne, circulated an email imploring Australians to "Bear in mind that although many Australians have no religion these days, the Muslim population in Australia will all declare that they are Muslim and this fact will be counted to ascertain what type of country we are in regard to religion ..."

People born in India but living in Australia has also increased from 5.6 per cent to 7.4 - becoming the fifth most common migrant country - per cent during the same time frame. Sydney is still the largest city, but Melbourne continues to catch up. Semi-detached, row, terrace and townhouses increased at 12.7 per cent from last census' 9.9 per cent.

Meanwhile, couples with no children make up a rising proportion of Australian families, at 38 per cent of family households, up from 32 per cent in 1991. Households are increasingly forced from the owner-occupier market to the rental market, ' said Tim Reardon, principal economist of the Housing Industry Association.

He became only the second player ever, and first since Oscar Robertson 55 years ago in 1962, to average a triple-double. It made me think at the time, Westbrook relished the chance to be out from under Durant's shadow.

According to the data this is a 1.2 per cent increase from the 2011 Census results when 17.8 per cent of people responded that they were engaged in voluntary work.

The nation's proportion of migrants is higher than all comparable Anglophone countries, with more overseas-born people than in the United Kingdom (13 percent), United States (14 percent), and Canada (22 percent).

Nearly a year after Australia fumed at computer screens while trying to fill out the 2016 Census, the data crunchers have fed the data into machines to give us a new idea of ourselves.

Rental stress is the one of greatest pains of the 21st century with Australian families' scrambling to keep their head above water.

Some 2.8% of Australians said they were Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander, up from 2.5% in 2011.

An independent panel appointed to examine the quality of the data collected concedes the privacy concerns had an impact.

Not being part of any religion does not necessarily mean that Australians no longer believe in God.it may only indicate that for many of them, religion and spirituality are a private matter and they prefer practicing it in privacy rather than as part of an institution.

About half of Australians were born overseas, or had at least one parent born overseas.
