Exit polls show big win for Macron's party in legislative election

The results of the first round of voting in the parliamentary election were released early Monday, with Mr. Macron's party winning just over 28 percent of the vote, the most for any single party.

Her defeat in May brought huge relief to European allies who had feared another populist upheaval to follow Britain's Brexit vote and Donald Trump's election as USA president, and disappointment to the party faithful.

"It is neither healthy nor desirable for a president who gathered only 24 per cent of the vote in the first round of the presidentials and who was elected in the second round only by the rejection of the extreme right should benefit from a monopoly of national representation", Cambadelis said.

From five to 12 seats will be claimed by other candidates.

- "Conquering neophytes" -France's youngest-ever president at 39, Macron has gained praise for appointing a balanced cabinet that straddles the left-right divide and taking a leading role in Europe's fight-back against US President Donald Trump on climate change.

The two established parties - the Republicans and the Socialists - both failed to reach the presidential run-off last month for the first time in France's post-war history.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel's office tweeted her congratulations to Macron for his party's victory. The Socialists, party of former president François Hollande, didn't even make 10 percent.

But with Macron's centrists sweeping the boards, Les Republicains still stand to lose up to half their seats, and are forecast to return 95 to 132 deputies.

Agrusa has suggested that Constand once enjoyed a romantic dinner by the fire at Cosby's home before the alleged assault. But there she was, making an appearance unexpected by all, perhaps especially by Montgomery County Court Judge Steven T.

Jean-Luc Melenchon, a far-left candidate who also scored well in the presidentials, said Macron had won a "circumstantial majority".

French polling agencies are projecting that President Emmanuel Macron's new centrist party crushed traditional rivals in the first round of parliamentary elections likely to drastically reshape French politics.

The party took less than 7.5 per cent of the vote. In a political landscape defined for decades by the well-oiled machines of traditional center-left and center-right parties, the rise of Macron's Republic on the Move represented a watershed development.

According to the Ipsos/Sopra Steria projection, the conservative Republicans and their allies will get between 70 and 110 MP seats after the second round.

The result supports predictions that Macron will secure a whopping majority in the second round, thereby paving the way for him to implement his pro-business agenda. If there is no clear victor, all candidates who win more than 12.5 percent in the first round qualify for the second round next Sunday.

The BBC's Hugh Schofield in Paris said everything suggested Mr Macron has won another crushing victory, with the only significant opposition coming from the centre-right Republicans.

The National Assembly always has the final say in the voting process of a law.

The party's election chief, Francois Baroin, appealed to middle-class voters and rural voters to choose his party in the second round, saying it would safeguard them against tax rises or cuts to public services in the countryside. His parliamentary candidates include a historic number of newcomers that from a cross-section of society: from an ex-bullfighter to a former fighter pilot, a mathematician and an anti-corruption magistrate as well as former local politicians - whose key campaign argument was "give the new president a chance".
