Trump confirms he is being investigated over Comey firing

Attorney General Jeff Sessions recused himself from the widening investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election. Although USA Today also noted that the tweet came shortly after a Washington Post report that Mueller's team is also investigating Trump son-in-law and adviser Jared Kushner's business dealings.

He has questioned why investigators do not dig into links between the Democrats and the Russian government, including his election opponent Hillary Clinton.

Administration officials and the president's advisers are anxious Trump's tweets and public statements about the Russian Federation probe will trigger additional damaging leaks, but they said he can not stop talking about the investigation, reported Politico.

It wasn't immediately clear who Trump was referring to in the tweet, but it was nearly certainly Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein.

Rosenstein isn't investigating the President, but he did appoint Special Counsel Robert Mueller to look into Russia's role in the 2016 presidential election, which includes investigating alleged collusion between Trump campaign officials and the Kremlin. Rosenstein can fire Mueller, but that doesn't make him the one investigating Trump.

Coats told associates that Trump asked him if he could intervene with Comey to get the Federal Bureau of Investigation to back off its focus on former national security adviser Michael Flynn, according to officials.

Mark Corallo, a spokesman for Trump's personal lawyer, responded Wednesday evening to the Post report by saying: "The FBI leak of information regarding the president is outrageous, inexcusable and illegal".

But Rosenstein is not now heading the FBI's probe into the Trump campaign's possible collusion with a Russian campaign that US intelligence officials have said was seeking to tilt the outcome of the 2016 election in Trump's favor. The Post said investigators had requested interviews with CIA Director, Dan Coats, National Security Agency chief Michael Rogers and Richard Ledgett, the former NSA deputy director. The order also demands that records be kept on any foreign travel by members of Trump's transition team and presidential campaign.

Paris officers cordon off Champs Elysees after auto hits police van
Noemie Pfister, walking with her infant child and a friend, said she saw a auto fly past a column of police vans, then fishtail. The gunman, Karim Cheurfi, was shot dead by police and a note praising the Islamic State group was found next to his body.

Obstruction of justice is an impeachable offense.

In a tweet earlier Friday, Trump said nobody has been able to show any proof about his collusion with Moscow after months of investigations.

"You are witnessing the single greatest WITCH HUNT in American political history - led by some very bad and conflicted people!" the president tweeted.

"Why is that Hillary Clintons family and Dems dealings with Russian Federation are not looked at, but my non-dealings are?"

It suffices to say that this is a big deal, and the revelation that a sitting president is being scrutinized by the Justice Department for potential criminal acts is rightly dominating the political news.

Earlier this week, reports emerged claiming that Trump is under the investigation of Special Counsel Robert Mueller over the dismissal of Comey. "I think the best vindication for the president is to let this investigation go on independently".

The tweets immediately prompted concerns among lawmakers that Trump might try to can both Mueller and Rosenstein.
