Trump rolls back some, not all, changes in US-Cuba relations

Although the policy changes announced were limited, Trump has tightened rules for Americans travelling to Cuba, banned ties with a military-run tourism firm and reaffirmed the existing usa trade embargo.

The new rules will stop individual travel to Cuba and seek to restrict the flow of payments to the many Cuban companies owned by the regime's security forces.

Trump's speech in Miami to announce the rollback was "full of hostile rhetoric", Havana's statement said, adding that the announced policies will "revert" the progress achieved between the two countries in the past two years.

He called the Obama administration's Cuba policy a "one-sided deal" and accused the previous president of taking a lax stance on the Castro government's human rights violations. American (AAL), Delta (DAL), JetBlue (JBLU), Southwest (LUV), United (UAL) and Alaska Airlines (ALK) are the US carriers now offering flights to Cuba.

Moran said in a statement that "putting America first means exporting what we produce to countries across the globe". "The Cuban people will continue deciding itself on the changes necessary for Cuba".

For ordinary Cuban citizens, the announcement from the US President Donald Trump was a shocker.

United States officials will move to enforce an existing ban on tourism by eliminating individual people-to-people exchanges that had been allowed under Obama and had opened a back door to tourism. Family visits and remittances will still be permitted.

But, facing pressure from USA business and some of his fellow Republicans to avoid turning back the clock completely in relations with communist-ruled Cuba, he also will leave intact many of Obama's steps toward normalization.

White House denies Trump wants Mueller out, but heat's on
Shortly after Trump fired Comey, a Justice Department official tapped Mueller to take up the investigation as a special counsel. Despite Spicer distancing the White House from Ruddy's allegations, Trump does have the power to sack Mueller.

"We do not want United States dollars to prop up a military monopoly that exploits and abuses the citizens of Cuba", Trump said. The president announced a revised Cuba policy aimed at stopping the flow of USA cash to the country's military and security services.

"The government of Cuba denounces the new measures toughening the embargo", Cuban state TV said.

Trump's policy keeps a U.S. Embassy open in Havana and allows U.S. airlines and cruise ships to continue service to Cuba.

The Cuban government maintained that the new policies would not work, comparing it to the economic embargo that never ushered the Castro regime out of power as the US had hoped.

But the overwhelming majority of the Cuban economy is controlled by the government.

Rhodes isn't the only Obama administration veteran who seems to be experiencing personal pain as Trump strips away portions of the 44th president's legacy - on immigration, trade, the environment and, perhaps, health care.

Trump's revised approach could see a stricter enforcement of a longtime ban on Americans travelling to Cuba as tourists, reported Al-Jazeera.

"We will assume any risk and remain firm and secure in building a sovereign, independent, socialist, democratic, prosperous and sustainable nation", Castro said in a statement.
